Registrar's update

Kia ora and welcome

The end of daylight saving is now well behind us, heralding the onset of the cooler weather and a decreased number of daylight hours  -  our working days are now a lot shorter than they were just a month or two ago!

This year, apart from the usual issues of building during the cooler, wetter months, there is the added problem of supply chain delays. On the positive side, there is plenty of work going around. With some careful organising of resources and projects at the stage of signing contracts, the industry can hopefully keep busy right through the year.

This month, we’re continuing the series of articles looking back to where the LBP scheme came from, and where it’s heading to next. In this second article of the series, we take a look at the many things that contributed to leaky homes in the 1990s.

We also have an article asking what we can learn from Board decisions following complaints. The Building Practitioners Board receives large numbers of complaints about LBPs each year, and often common themes are repeated throughout.

The Board takes every complaint very seriously, and while some turn out to not be within the powers of the Board to hear and are dismissed at that stage, many are investigated and go to a hearing. We hope that by sharing some of these themes, smaller problems can be resolved early on before growing into bigger ones.

LBP survey – a chance to have your say

The LBP scheme will soon be conducting a survey of LBPs to gather information about how to better meet your needs. Findings from the survey will help us gain a better understanding so we can look to improve our products and services to serve you better. It will also provide the opportunity for you to make suggestions for improvements.

We are really interested to hear your feedback and encourage you to take some time to complete the survey when it goes live in late June.

Have a great month.

Ngā mihi

Tell us about your experiences

The LBP scheme will soon be conducting a survey of LBPs to help us understand the levels of service we are providing so that we can look at how to better meet your needs.

This survey will be a great opportunity for you to tell us about your recent experiences with us, and any thoughts you have on how we can improve our services. NielsenIQ, an independent research company, will be carrying out this confidential survey on behalf of the Licensed Building Practitioners scheme and results will not be reported in a way that will allow you to be individually identified.

You will be contacted in late June with more details about the survey and how to take part.
