Registrar’s update

Kia ora and welcome

This month’s Codewords issue covers changes to the building code and includes further information about Certificates of Work.

The article about the recently introduced healthy homes standards for rental properties in New Zealand covers the new specific and minimum standards for heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture ingress and drainage, and draught stopping in rental properties. These standards were passed into law on the 1st July 2019 and landlords are required to be compliant with them from 1st July 2021. This article provides helpful links and information, please take the time to read the article to ensure you understand how the standards may impact you as an LBP.

In the previous Codewords Faye Pearson-Green, Building Practitioners Board Member covered the fundamentals of Certificates of Work. In this issue Faye discusses part two of this series ‘Certificates of Work and Documenting Collaborative Design’. This article covers multiple points including what to do when issuing a Certificate of Work when multiple Licenced Building Practitioners have been involved in the design.

This is the first Codewords for 2021. There were many challenges throughout 2020, however there is optimism for more certainty in 2021 with news of COVID-19 vaccines and the continuing role out of the $1.6 billion Trades and Apprenticeships Training Package.
