Have your say on streamlining the building consent system with remote inspections

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is seeking feedback on a range of options to increase the uptake of remote inspections and improve efficiency and productivity in the building inspection process.

This will help deliver on the Government’s objectives to increase housing supply by lifting efficiency and competition in the building system, removing regulatory barriers and driving down costs.

The discussion document primarily focuses on increasing the uptake of remote inspections which can reduce delays associated with on-site inspections, lower costs, and lift efficiency by:

  • eliminating the need to travel to site, allowing inspectors to conduct more inspections per day
  • increasing flexibility in the workday of inspectors and building professionals
  • enabling inspectors to carry out inspections in other regions.

We are seeking feedback from a broad range of submitters on the options you prefer, and on the benefits and costs of remote inspections for individuals and organisations.

Submissions are open now and will close at 5 pm Friday 29 November 2024.
